1952 Currier and Ives Lithograph, God Bless Our School
"God Bless Our School" Vintage Art Print
Over the years I have developed a love for books. Old books in particular. Old Art books are just cherries on top! A find in a local sale made it home to be added to my vintage adoption list.
The 1952 edition of Currier and Ives America had a tattered jacket and the covers had been damaged, but the prints inside were in perfect condition. This is the 3rd copy I have found, but the first that had the 2 "God Bless" prints still inside. These copies were often removed and framed. I think that is why they made them the last 2 prints in the book.
Sheltered from the light, the colors are rich and vibrant in this wonderful God Bless Our School lithograph. I love the hues of the vintage inks. Combined with thick quality paper stock they just had a special tone to them.
The print originally drawn and hand colored in the 1800's has continued to be a favorite from this wonderful American company. The 1952 book was sewn together at the binding by thick cotton thread. I carefully cut each stitch and separated each page. I have left the stitch holes and edge for you to see and to allow you to trim to your frame. I also shot the lithograph on top of a vintage frame to show you how lovely it will be when you find the perfect frame for it!
The full size print is approximately 12" by 16" one the printed area is approximately 9" 14". The back is blank and the paper is very clean. This is a rare unused copy. Most of these were removed from the original books. I have only 1 copy of this wonderful vintage print that represents a defining aspect of early American Life.
