1952 Currier and Ives Lithograph - " Ice Boat Race on The Hudson"
Antique Art Print Perfect For Farm House Decor
If you love the look of early American decor vintage art work will be right at home in your space. Currier and Ives gathered long ago a beautiful selection of the works of the best artist of the 1800's. Prints were creations of talented artists whose work then went to the hands of skilled carvers that made the wood block stamp of the drawing. Ink pressed on to thick hand made paper was given to the next set of hands and color was applied and a detailed vision came to life. Even into the 50's when these prints were published, printing processes were still labor intensive and required commercial machinery if mass produced. With mass being no where near as readily available as it is today.
"Ice Boat Race On The Hudson" is one in a series works portraying life on the river in early America. The landscape is a wide view of a the sleek boats with sails full. In the background a steam engine puffs through the snow covered mountains. The detailed art work is like a photograph. The colors are rich and eye catching in the earth tones of aged ink. Taken from the 1952 coffee table book "Currier and Ives America" this work was one of 80 prints carefully removed from the hand sewn book who's cover had been damaged. The print is clean with sharp edges and no foxing or light damage. It has nice wide natural borders and comes in a 16 x 20 beveled edge Mat ready for framing.
