Pig Tail Grilling Fork with Hammer Forged Steer Head
Recycling Iron is Something We Do Every Day
Tractor and equipment parts can become something totally new with a new use in life. Rail spikes are a customer favorite. We have found they can be used as a starting point for many shapes and the spike heads are a great base for forging animal heads.
Spikes are already tempered so the first step is to remove that temper. Walter then stretches the spikes in a long taper that requires quite a few reheats. The steer head is formed by first splitting the sides off of the spike head to form the horns. The maker must use a sharp eye and a careful hand to then detail and form the face of the bull and the horns. The process of forging just the steer head requires about an hour on the forge with an additional 30 minutes to hammer out the taper and pigtail. 30 minutes might not sound like a long time but if those minutes are spent pounding hot iron with a hammer, thats about 30 to 40, hard as you can hit it, whacks a minute.
We also have a rail spike forks with the heads in their original form.
Pig Tail Grilling Forks
The pigtail fork is an European grilling tool that soon becomes a favorite of Grill chefs. The needle pierces the protein and lets the juices flow through the meat helping to tenderize and flavor. The tip grabs the meat and makes turning a breeze. They work well on anything including larger cuts on the grill. Grilling competitors are avid fans and were the first folks to introduce us to this unique cooking tool. These are wonderful gifts for the backyard chef, and are unique corporate gifts.
