Vintage Copper Canister with Brass Accents
Copper Sill Canister
Copper is just an elegant metal. The color is beautiful. It reflects light and stands out in the kitchen. These wonderful vintage copper storage containers weren't just lovely but were artisan made to withstand years of use.
This container is approximately 6 or so inches tall and 3 or so inches wide. The lid fits tight. The banding and name plate are brass. The outer patina is in very good condition while there is some oxidation on the interior. A drop in liner should make it a very usable piece in addition to its decorative assets.
Sill means Herring. I haven't researched any information about how exactly it was used. I am assuming the fish was dried and stored in the copper canister. I cleaned the piece with soap and water only.
These were purchased at an estate sale so I am afraid I don't have a wonderful story about this kitchen piece. It is waiting for a new story on a new shelf. It can be yours with just a click!
